Guide: Care and Cleaning of Leather

1. Take a sponge or cloth and soak it in warm water. Then, gently run it over the leather to clean it.
La spugna "Tack Cleaning Sponge" di Carr & Day & Martin it is undoubtedly the best-selling for cleaning leather, thanks to its characteristics: density and resistance.
2. Next, you can spray some spray soap on the surface of the leather or rub the sponge on the leather soap bar. Carefully clean all parts of the saddle and harness.
A good spray soap can be the "Soft Clean" di Equipe or the "Leather Care" by Masc, but also the "Tack Cleaner Step 1" di Carr & Day & Martin.
As a bar of soap we suggest that of Masc or again Carr & Day & Martin
3. Once the leather is clean and dry, you can proceed with care using leather oil or grease. Usually, it is recommended to use grease for smooth leather and for more frequent maintenance, while oil is suitable for hard-to-reach parts and for more elaborate saddles, such as western riding saddles. If you want to achieve an even more optimal result, you can consider using a self-polishing colored cream that revives the natural color of the leather.

4. Let the leather dry completely and repeat the treatment once or twice a month.
We recommend testing new products on a hidden area of the saddle before proceeding with complete cleaning.
It's also important to keep in mind that each leather care product may have different instructions and may require you to use a specific brush, cloth or sponge for best results. Make sure you carefully follow the directions on the packaging of the products you use.
Here are some common mistakes to avoid when cleaning leather:
- Use harsh cleaners or solvents: Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners or solvents to clean leather as they can damage the surface and remove natural oils.
- Excessive humidity: Excessive humidity can cause warping, discoloration or mold growth on the leather
- Dry leather in the sun or with direct heat sources: Direct exposure to the sun or intense heat can cause dryness and cracks in the leather.
- Neglect or excessive care: Leather needs to be moisturized regularly to prevent it from becoming dry and brittle, but overuse can make the leather greasy or lose its natural shine
- Using inappropriate products: Choose a product suited to the type of leather you have.
